General Procedures
With your teeth, there’s a lot that can go right and quite a bit that can go wrong. Properly diagnosing the problem begins with a general dentist and it's the first step toward healing. A general dentist will thoroughly exam your teeth, gums and overall structure of your mouth before determining whether you need to see a specialist.
For more than 30 years, the Reno-based team at Brosy Family Dentistry has helped patients with everything from basic teeth cleaning to crowns and bridges, fillings and extractions. After a thorough examination of your mouth, Dr. Erin Anderson will recommend the best course of treatment, taking a conservative, no-pressure approach to your care. See how we can help.
Crowns and Bridges
With teeth that are weak, cracked, misshapen or severely discolored, there are several options for treatment. One option is to install a dental crown, which is made of porcelain, metal or gold. It is placed over the tooth, covering it to restore shape, size, strength and appearance. Crowns are installed over the course of two to three visits with Dr. Anderson. Within two weeks, your crown arrives for permanent fitting on your tooth. Learn more about crowns.
Bridges are an affordable, permanent solution for missing teeth. By creating a literal bridge between two teeth, this procedure recreates the natural shape and feel of your original tooth. The main reason it’s important to replace missing teeth is that not doing so could lead to structural changes in the mouth and jaw, which can lead to difficulty eating and speaking. Comprehensive Exams
At the core of dentistry is the examination. When you visit Dr. Erin Anderson at Brosy Family Dentistry, you’ll undergo a full comprehensive exam with experienced members of the Brosy team. The purpose of a comprehensive exam is to prevent and detect problems such as cavities, gum disease, tooth decay and other issues that can lead to bigger problems down the line.
The exam typically includes a discussion about dietary habits followed by a thorough examination of the inside of your mouth, including the gums, teeth and bone structure. A cancer screening is often conducted and, if needed, X-rays will be taken. From there, Dr. Anderson will help you determine whether you need a filling, extraction or other procedure. Extractions
Extractions are common in patients of all ages, including children. The Brosy Family Dentistry team has performed extractions on Northern Nevada patients for the last 30-plus years and is committed to making the experience as comfortable and pain-free as possible.
If an extraction is needed, Dr. Anderson first numbs the area, then extracts the tooth. Afterward, you will be given instructions on how to care for your mouth, including which foods and drinks to avoid as well as which products to use to help the healing process. If you have a tooth you suspect needs extracting, contact Brosy today to schedule an appointment. Learn more about extractions.
